About IMAGINE

IMAGINE (Interprofessional Medical and Allied Groups for Improving Neighborhood Environments) is a student run, interprofessional community health initiative serving marginalized populations in downtown Toronto without ID or OHIP requirement. Since 2007, IMAGINE has brought together students from medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, social work, and other health professions to deliver low-barrier primary care grounded in health equity and community partnership.

Beyond clinical care, IMAGINE also supports community partnerships, outreach initiatives and student led advocacy focused on health equity and access to care.

The IMAGINE clinic unfortunately temporarily closed in 2023 due to operational challenges. Since then, students, faculty and community partners have worked to rebuild the program with a stronger and more sustainable structure. We are excited to announce that the IMAGINE clinic is scheduled to reopen on July 4, 2026.

As the clinic prepares to reopen, volunteer responsibilities extend through the summer months and are not limited to the academic year. Volunteers are expected to remain actively engaged during this period to support planning and operational needs.

Clinic Volunteer Responsibilities

As a clinic volunteer, you will work in an inter-professional team to plan and deliver care to clients, under the supervision of a preceptor (licensed healthcare practitioner). We strive to build teams that include a student and a preceptor from diverse faculties (including but not limited to medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and social work), fostering a collaborative and holistic approach to care.

  • Complete anti-oppressive practice training (virtual and asynchronous, ~2 hours)

  • Complete suicide risk assessment training (virtual and asynchronous, ~2 hours)

  • Participate in a minimum of 3 Saturday clinics at the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Center on 168 Bathurst St Toronto, ON M5V 2R4. Each clinic runs from ~9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (some days may run longer depending on patient need)

  • All volunteers are expected to review, agree to, and uphold the IMAGINE Volunteer Expectations and Accountability Policy

As our clinic relies entirely on volunteer commitment, attendance at all 3 clinic shifts and the reflection session is mandatory to ensure continuity of accessible and equitable patient care.

IPE Credit
Volunteers who complete all of the following requirements will receive 2 immersion IPE credits. To qualify, you must:

  • Attend 3 clinic shifts over the period of 1 year

  • Complete anti-oppressive practice training

  • Complete suicide risk assessment training

  • Attend the reflection/debrief session following each clinic shift

We look forward to welcoming the next group of IMAGINE volunteers as we prepare for the clinic's reopening!
